He moved to New York City when he was 20, looking for independence, but what he found were “Peter” and “Mary,” and a career that took on a life of its own. At the 1963 March on Washington when Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech, Peter, Paul and Mary delivered the compelling “If I Had a Hammer” and “Blowin’ in the Wind.” Generations have been touched by his enduring classics, including “The Wedding Song” and “In These Times.” Now, at 74, with Betty, his spouse of 48 years, the Stookeys share about their life and what has touched them and upheld them, including music, faith and love.
